Idiom of the Day.
"By the skin of one's teeth" - my personal all-time favorite, which can be a great idiomatic replacement for "barely". Pretty much this phrase means that you just manage to do smth by the smallest margin. Imagine your teeth have skin? Nuh, they don't. Hence, the idiom.
Example 1 - I had not studied for the exam. So, I just managed to pass it by the skin of my teeth.
Example 2 - The visiting team was really strong. We secured the well-deserved victory by the skin of our teeth.
